Esce domani, 31 maggio, “CODES AND KEYS” il settimo album in studio dei Death Cab for Cutie una delle realtà indie-rock americane più conosciute ed apprezzate.
I Death Cab for Cutie sono destinati a rimanere nella storia grazie al video di “You are tourist”, primo singolo dell’album, che per la prima volta al mondo è stato trasmesso in diretta mentre veniva girato e realizzato in presa diretta.
Per coloro che non hanno mai visto onstage i DCFC, uscirà in contemporanea al cd “CODES AND KEYS” il DVD “Live At The Mount Baker Theatre”: il dvd contiene parti del concerto mai pubblicate in precedenza oltre a interviste con i membri del gruppo che ricordano i loro inizi a Bellingham.
“CODES AND KEYS”, nato nel corso di oltre sette mesi in diversi studi su e giù per la West Coast, è un album che in parte si distacca dal suono del passato, caratterizzato dalle chitarre, e si avvicina al piano e a sonorità più elettroniche.
A differenza dell’esperienza di Narrow Stairs, album candidato ai Grammy nel 2008, che la band aveva registrato in tempo reale, con pochissimi overdub e trucchi di studio, “CODES AND KEYS”, è diventato quello che il chitarrista/multi strumentista/produttore Chris Walla ha iniziato a definire “un progetto in costruzione”.
Il gruppo si è concentrato nel selezionare e catturare le singole performance migliori, a volte separatamente, altre in coppia, e ha costruito le canzoni stratificando queste performance (e altre idee musicali) una sopra
l’altra. “Abbiamo destrutturato anche in passato piccole parti di canzoni”, dice Walla, “ma non abbiamo mai tirato tutto il filo del maglione per rifare poi un maglione nuovo. Mai così prima d’ora”.

I Death Cab for Cutie in ristampa

I Death Cab for Cutie faranno uscire una ristampa di “Something About Airplanes”, il loro album di debutto del 1998.
L’album sarà disponibile in “edizione deluxe” il prossimo 25 novembre negli USA, per celebrare il decimo anniversario della pubblicazione e includerà un bonus-disc con la registrazione del primo show della band a Seattle nel 1998.
Inoltre l’artwork sarà rinnovato e saranno aggiunte nuove e più esaustive note di copertina scritte da Sean Nelson degli Harvey Danger. (mtv.it)
