Anticipato in radio dall’inedito “We all go back to where we belong” il 15 Novembre esce PART LIES, PART HEART, PART TRUTH, PART GARBAGE, 1982– 2011, l’ultima definitiva raccolta dei R.E.M. che il 21 settembre scorso hanno annunciato, con grande rammarico dei fan, la notizia del loro scioglimento.
L’album è una retrospettiva che ripercorre, per la prima volta, tutta la loro carriera attraverso 40 canzoni: dai pionieristici anni con l’etichetta IRS (dal 1982 al 1987) agli anni con la Warner (dal 1988 al 2011).
Il video di “We all go back to where we belong” è stato girato in due versioni, che vedono
rispettivamente la partecipazione di due ospiti straordinari: la talentuosa attrice Kirsten Dunst, premiata recentemente al festival di Cannes come miglior attrice per il film Melancholia e il leggendario poeta artista e attivista John Giorno.
“Ripercorrere i nostri ricordi e la musica di oltre 3 decenni è stato un lavoraccio”, dice Mike Mills sulla scelta dei brani di PART LIES, PART HEART, PART TRUTH, PART GARBAGE, 1982 – 2011. “Ma alla fine ci è sembrato che queste canzoni tracciassero una linea naturale lungo questi 31 anni di lavoro insieme”.
Oltre alle note di copertina scritte dai membri della band, l’album contiene 3 nuovi brani che i R.E.M. hanno composto dopo la realizzazione del loro ultimo album “Collapse into now”: “A month of Saturdays”, “We all go back to where we belong” e “Hallelujah”.
Le nuove canzoni sono state registrate durante l’estate ad Athens con il produttore di ACCELERATE e di COLLAPSE INTO NOW, lo stimato Jacknife Lee. Negli ultimi due anni, con questi due album la band è ritornata a fare sentire la propria voce e si è guadagnata le migliori recensioni della propria carriera, permettendogli di lasciare le scene a testa alta.
